Car Insurance Insights for 2024:

• UK car insurance premiums have surged by 61% in the past year, the most significant annual increase since tracking began in October 2013.
• In the three months ending August 2023, the five cheapest premiums saw a record-breaking quarterly increase of 22%.
• Telematics providers’ competitiveness has declined, accounting for only 17% of rank one to five quotes.
• Premium increases varied by age group, with the under-25s experiencing the highest rise at 66.7%.
• London, the West Midlands, and the South East have seen the highest premium increases, with London drivers facing a 69.5% rise.

Home Insurance Insights for 2024:

• UK home insurance premiums have surged by 25.7% in the 12 months leading up to July 2023, marking the most significant annual increase since tracking began in 2014.
• In the past three months alone, quoted premiums increased by 9.9%, the most significant quarterly rise since tracking began.
• The average combined home and contents insurance policy now stands at £212, compared to £167 in July 2022.
• Londoners continue to pay the highest quoted insurance premiums, with an average annual policy cost of £316, while the North East remains the UK’s cheapest region at £184.
• The rise in premiums is particularly notable for customers who have escaped water claims, a common type of claim in the home insurance market.
• Quoted home prices vary by age, with under-50s households paying £222 on average, while over-50s typically face £199 for an annual policy.
• Victorian-era properties built between 1850 and 1895 attracted the highest average quoted premiums at £279 for a joint home and contents insurance policy.
• Built between 1940 and 1955, properties have the lowest average premium at £194.
• Quoted premiums have risen for properties of all ages in the past year, with the most significant annual increase for homes built between 1910 and 1925 of 28.3%.
